Elkie Brooks (born Elaine Bookbinder, 25 February 1945) is an English singer. She was a vocalist with the bands Dada and Vinegar Joe, and later became a solo artist. She gained her biggest success in the late 1970s and 1980s, releasing 13 UK Top 75 singles, and reached the top ten with "Pearl's a Singer", "Sunshine After the Rain" and the title track of the album No More the Fool. She has been nominated twice for Brit Awards.

1997 compilation album by Elkie Brooks. The Very Best of Elkie Brooks (Polygram). Minutes is an album by British singer Elkie Brooks. Minutes was Brooks' first contemporary album since Live and Learn in 1979. A&M wanted her to stick to the winning formula of the Pearls albums, she hired the producer and band to create what was an experimental album for the time, a mixture of pop tunes and dark 1980s rock. A&M had little faith in the album and withheld promotion, focusing on her forthcoming album, the more commercial Screen Gems. Two singles were sold poorly. Brooks went on tour to increase sales, but by the time the tour began, A&M was ready to release her.
Inspiration is a 1989 album by Elkie Brooks. It is a mixture of cover versions and original tracks and includes the single "Shame". It was recorded 1989 at Abbey Road Studios, RPM Studios, Pavilion Studios, Rock House and Woody Bay Studios. The album was issued on CD, vinyl and cassette in 1989 through Telstar Records, and re-released on CD and cassette by Ronco. Inspiration reached number 58 and remained in the UK charts for 3 weeks. Shame" was originally entered in the 1989 A Song for Europe, sung by Jane Alexander, coming third.

It went on to become a major hit in the UK - the biggest of her career. With the relative disappointment of her previous album, Live and Learn, A&M decided to release a compilation of her biggest hits and newly recorded material aimed firmly at the middle of the road audience.
