Ascension is the third studio album by the British post-metal band Jesu. The album was released on 10 May 2011 through Caldo Verde Records. Ascension is the first full-length studio album released by Jesu since 2007's Conqueror.

Jesu is the first full-length album by British experimental music band Jesu, released through Hydra Head Records on 8 December 2004. Unlike the Heart Ache EP, where Justin Broadrick executed all instrumentation himself, this release features Ted Parsons on drums, Diarmuid Dalton on bass, and a guest appearance by Paul Neville on guitar on the track "Man/Woman". Fortunately, Ascension is everything a loyal fan could hope for and more. Electronic elements are still fully present, but these were present even in highlights of the Jesu back catalog such as Silver: they are and always have been an integral part of Jesu's identity, and this will not be changing any time soon. However, the strength of Ascension and the group's previously mentioned early records is that the electronic backgrounds and soundscapes are nothing more than complements to the power chord-centric base of the music rather than its focal point.

Opiate Sun was different from Jesu's predecessors in that Broadrick let his vocals fall out in front of his thick, sludgy melodic wall of guitars, feedback, downtuned basslines, and keyboards. One could actually decipher his lyrics from the intoxicating swirl underneath. On 2011's Ascension, Broadrick, with former Swans drummer Ted Parsons, take those elements to the next level.
