In today's video, we chat about part one of an excellent trio of EPs from Glasgow's very own, Belle & Sebastian
How to Solve Our Human Problems is the collective title of three EPs by the band Belle and Sebastian, released through Matador Records between 2017 and 2018. The EPs were eventually compiled as a compilation album on February 16, 2018. All tracks written by Belle and Sebastian.

Recorded at a leisurely pace and with a minimum of fuss, How To Solve Our Human Problems (Part 1) finds the members of Belle & Sebastian vamping as frequently as they’re weaving tales of the painfully shy and tragically literate. How to Solve Our Human Problems, Part 1 is the sound of a band deploying its full arsenal of bells and whistles to seize your attention, even when the songs themselves aren’t always strong enough to retain the grip.
When the How to Solve Our Human Problems series was first announced last fall, Murdoch expressed his desire to shake up Belle and Sebastian’s usual recording and release strategies. But with the band successfully upgrading Everything Is Now from its most frivolous song to one of its more probing, you have wonder if they ultimately would’ve been better off whittling down the EPs’ 15 tracks into a tight 10-song album.
How To Solve Our Human Problems (Parts 1-3). A new Belle and Sebastian release is always something to cheer. There’s one big reason why 15 songs are coming out on three EPs, rather than one album. We’d made a couple of LPs, Tigermilk and If You’re Feeling Sinister, within the space of six months, Murdoch says, remembering the early days of the band’s career, and how that fed into their decision-making this time.
Compile them into one 12-track set and you probably have Belle & Sebastian’s second-best album. Now, the band will follow a similar path with its first new music since early 2015. The plan: three five-song EPs, each named How To Solve Our Human Problems (Parts 1, 2 and 3), released in December, January and February.
A new Belle and Sebastian release is always something to cheer. We’d met Leo in February of 2016, and I’d say that meeting and the recording of ‘I’ll Be Your Pilot’ were the first tangible steps of this EP project, Martin says
