Description

Harry Nilsson - Son Of Schmilsson 1972 (Japanese issue/Full Album).

All lyrics from Son Of Schmilsson album, popular Harry Nilsson songs with tracklist and information about album.

Son of Schmilsson is the eighth album by American singer Harry Nilsson. Nilsson was being pressured to produce a follow-up album similar to his 1971 breakthrough, Nilsson Schmilsson, but instead, he created a more eccentric work. The album was produced by Richard Perry and features musical contributions from former Beatles Ringo Starr and George Harrison. Other musicians on the recording include Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voormann, Bobby Keys and Peter Frampton.

The very title of Son of Schmilsson implies that it's a de facto sequel to its smash predecessor but, as always with Nilsson, don't take everything at face value. Yes, he's back with producer Richard Perry and he's working from the same gleefully melodic, polished pop/rock territory as before, but this is an incredibly schizoid record, an album by an enormously gifted musician deciding that, since he's already going unhinged, he might as well indulge himself while he's at it.

Nilsson Schmilsson was not only Harry Nilsson’s commercial breakthrough, it was the artist’s moment of emancipation. For years, Nilsson had labored at mannered, orchestrated pop music that was extraordinary but often seemed to stifle its author’s sense of mischief. Here for the first time Nilsson threw all caution to the wind and let loose his desires. Producer Richard Perry kept the sessions on track, and the performances are strengthened by a top-notch studio band, the core of which was cribbed from Nilsson’s pal John Lennon.

Spaceman (Harry Nilsson song). Spaceman" is a song written and recorded by the American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson, released on his 1972 album, Son of Schmilsson. One of the highlights on Son of Schmilsson, with its dramatic opening fanfare and a cross between folk with a heavy R&B rhythm, the song explains the desire and downfall of the narrator, who wished to be a spaceman and now wants to go back to Earth but is stuck in space.
