Danzig - Danzig III - How The Gods Kill (1992).

Danzig III: How the Gods Kill. Danzig III: How the Gods Kill is the third album by Glenn Danzig's band Danzig, and the highest to chart at the time of its release in 1992 on Def American Recordings. It was reissued in 1998 by Def American's successor, American Recordings. How the Gods Kill was a departure from the previous Danzig albums and featured more of a doom and gothic metal sound.

Glenn Danzig, one of the most well known and influential figures in the realms of Heavy Metal. He has countlessly inspired dozens of bands from various genres with his take on music. His charisma and his penchant for the darker side of things has won many people over for the past 30 years and still counting. How The Gods Kill opens the album with an almost 7 minute track by the name of Godless. The guitar work is just as solid as past releases, John Christ playing around with his guitar to provide a heavy base for the music. Low to mid tempo at best, Christ provides a lot of catchy rhythms with infectious grooves and plenty of jaw dropping solos for the guitar purists.

With III, Danzig chose to omit some of the more obvious blues influences and replace them with additional doses of heavy metal riffage, sometimes almost stepping into groove metal realms. Now don’t get discouraged, because we’re still talking about heavy and not nu grooves here! These are no single-note chugga chugga-cretinisms that started dominating the metal scene around the time. Tomorrow (July 14, 2012) is the 20th anniversary of Danzig III: How the Gods Kill. It would be the last album the band would record before going in a more experimental direction. This means it's heavy metal, rock and roll, and the blues rolled together into one of the most cocksure, diabolical metal albums of all time.

DANZIG III also proved to be one of the band's last album to stick to the group's original musical direction. Future releases like 1994's DANZIG 4 and 1996's BLACKACIDEVIL (the latter featuring only Glenn Danzig from the original band) experimented rather unsuccessfully with electronically sounds, a move that alienated Danzig's heavy metal audience. A bit strong at times, but fits the music perfectly. Do yourself a favor and pick up Danzig 3 How the Gods Kill. One person found this helpful.
