Bella Hardy is a contemporary folk musician, singer and songwriter from Edale in Derbyshire, who performs a combination of traditional and self-penned material. She was named Folk Singer of the Year at the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, having previously won the award for Best Original Song in 2012 for "The Herring Girl".

Bella Hardy is a folk musician from Edale in Derbyshire, UK. She is a singer, songwriter and fiddle player, with many of her songs inspired by the landscape and folk tales of the Peak District. Bella Hardy's musical career began with the band The Pack, alongside 11 other musicians she met at a Folkworks Youth Summer School, and which performed from 1997 to 2007. By that point, she was already establishing herself as a solo artist, being a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk awards in 2004

British folk singer, songwriter, and fiddler Bella Hardy emerged in the mid-2000s with an intense, heartfelt approach to singing that drew initial comparisons to June Tabor. From Edale, Derbyshire, in the beautiful Peak District, Hardy was brought up in a small, relatively remote, close-knit community that mirrored some of the rural folk environments where traditional song flourished in the old days. The year 2017 saw the release of a unique project, Eternal Spring, an original composition inspired by and recorded in Yunnan Province, China. In 2017 Hardy also delivered her eighth and most sonically diverse album, the Paul Savage-produced Hey Sammy, which featured a more pop-inspired sound.

Bella Hardy found her first home in folk music through a childhood love for ballad books. A self-taught fiddle singer, she began performing at Cambridge and Sidmouth festivals from the age of 13 and eventually took a BA in English Literature and a Masters degree in Music. Her debut album Night Visiting, released ten years ago, established her reputation as a songwriter when her first original composition Three Black Feathers earned a BBC Folk Award nomination. Her seven-week residency in the Chinese city of Kunming was arranged by the British Council and the PRS For Music Foundation and resulted in the 2017 recording and release of Eternal Spring - an album of songs and poetry made in collaboration with Chinese singers and musicians. It seems entirely fitting that Bella Hardy should mark a decade of remarkable recordings with the exceptional step forward that is Hey Sammy.
