The Shaker Village Work Group was a recreational summer camp and teen educational program that occupied historic Shaker land and buildings in New Lebanon, New York. The property was purchased by founders Jerome (Jerry) and Sybil A. Count from the Mount Lebanon Shaker Village community in 1946, and was opened to its first group of young "villagers" as the Shaker Village Work Camp in 1947. Around 1960, the Work Camp's name was changed to the Shaker Village Work Group.

Jacob Raphael Druckman (June 26, 1928 – May 24, 1996) was an American composer born in Philadelphia. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Druckman studied with Vincent Persichetti, Peter Mennin, and Bernard Wagenaar. In 1949 and 1950 he studied with Aaron Copland at Tanglewood and later continued his studies at the École Normale de Musique in Paris (1954–55). He worked extensively with electronic music, in addition to a number of works for orchestra or for small ensembles. In 1972 he won the Pulitzer Prize for his first large orchestral work, Windows

Simple Gifts: The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center at Shaker Village became a powerful film for television by Live From Lincoln Center, as well as a moving recording which was recently released. David Finckel and Wu Han Lisa-Marie Mazzucco. Pianist Wu Han along with her husband, cellist David Finckel, serve as artistic directors for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. And, it was all encapsulated when they began to play that familiar, simple tune from Copland's ballet. When that 'Simple Gifts' tune came on, on the stage, I can see people just teared up. With that piece of music, you feel like the Shaker ghost is with you. The clarinet soared - and everybody just had smiles comin. nd so many people hugged me after the concert, to tell me how touched they were, what that means to them, to have the experience of hearing the tune in the Shaker barn.
