Description

Recorded live at City Limits in Delray Beach, FL on June 3, 2007. Original version from the album The Optimist's Club.

The new record, The Optimist's Club finds them greatly expanding their sound to include european influences, a fuller sound and most importantly, the emergence of Kay Stanton as a creative force. The first half of the record is an ep-length song cycle relating the sensations of two friends from Atlanta visiting New York City and falling in love. References to the avant garde and anti-art are sprinkled throughout

Recorded at Bel Air Studio. Comes with handprinted and handnumbered covers, limited to 490 copies, on psychedelic swirl vinyl. CD

2004), The Optimist’s Club (2006), and Modern Silence (2009) NeSmith was a member of Of Montreal for the Satanic Panic In the Attic tour of 2004 and some of the Sunlandic Twins tour of 2005, eventually leaving to focus on his own band. Kay and Jason are also in Supercluster, the side project of Vanessa Briscoe Hay of Pylon

1 more album featuring this track. Over the course of three albums Athens, GA’s finest have managed to carve out an aesthetic of labyrinthine tangles of ear-worm melodies, plot-twist production, and the history of popular music. Forget that Jason played with of Montreal.

The first half of the album is a cycle of songs relating a story about two friends from Atlanta who take a trip to New York and fall in love. The mini-EP is started with Stanton’s soft, lazy vocals, simple keyboards and classic poppy guitar on the opener "Krötenwanderung. The romance continues with "DuChamp’s Camera” another of Stanton’s solos in which her measured vocals and particular timing make the song what it is. There are references to the avant-garde and anti-art throughout, as well as a shameless admiration of DuChamp

You'd think they could be more the buddy types with each other, but they aren't. The songs on the Athens, G. band's third full-length record - The Optimist's Club - are nothing like Kelly Clarkson, but they carry with them, in their thread, those inarguable intricacies that breathe big breathes, big air, or at least allow a listener to. They are the refreshing songs of exuberant delight in sound and they come from the fingers of a guy who describes his songs the way a kid bred on comic books, sci-fi fantasies and all-night binges of grape soda would.

Learn How to Disappear. If you want to make me happy, stay. If you want to make me laugh like a little boy, come play. If you want to break my heart, just go away. Learn how to disappearGet yourself away from hereChange your name and your addressAnd get a brand new faceErase the memories from your headAct like someone else insteadDisappear and leave a giant question in your place.

28 January at 16:03 ·. A crazy little drive up the middle of the USA with some weirdos who usually play the same songs at the same time. Participants include Jason, Kay, Tim Schrieber, Suzanne Allison, Paul Walker, Charlie Johnston, Ben Davis, and Joseph Davis. Some of them aren't on BaceFook, so I can't tag them.
