Ragnarök is the fifth album, released in 1995 on Metal Blade Records, by the rock/heavy metal/punk band Gwar. This album contains the most varied vocal stylings of any Gwar album, as the majority of the band lends their vocals to the track list (only We Kill Everything features as many different vocalists), as well as guest villain Cardinal Syn. Ragnarök is essentially a heavy metal album and it is spiced with a story about the end of the world.

For those who are under the mistaken impression that gimmicks will only take a band so far, Gwar has countered with its sixth full-length studio album, Rag Na Rok. None of the songs on this go-around sticks out as a new musical direction, but then again, music isn't what made this group famous. The title track is the most engaging, as it contains both consistently audible lyrics and a discernible melody.

A transitional album even for a band that seems to be perpetually transitioning, "Ragnarök" finds GWAR really starting to move further away from their rather pure punk roots in a rd rock polyglot style that's both creative and somewhat unsatisfying due to its lack of concentrated style. While I wouldn't say this is an album to stay away from, it's certainly one more for the dedicated fans of the band than the casual listener. The punks should try some earlier material, the metalheads some of the bands last handful of albums, with the mid-career reserved for those who still listen to The Tubes on vinyl.
