There is a palpable vibrancy about music at Christ’s Hospital. We offer something very special to musicians of all types and at all stages of their musical development. Music has lay at the very heart of the school for 400 years and continues to do so, most obviously through the famous Band that accompanies the pupils’ daily march into lunch, and the Chapel Choir, of which more than 10 per cent of the whole school hold membership.

The Christ's Hospital Band performing during the lunch interval at Lord's 2013 during England vs New Zealand. The band primarily plays for the daily lunch parade, weather permitting, at the school where the whole school assembles by the Quadrangle at lunchtime and march into Dining Hall to the sound of the band. The band also plays for other events both nationally and internationally. As well as these, the band is called upon to provide music for the CCF Biennial inspection in the form of both background music during the inspection and marches during the march on and march pasts. At the end of each academic year, the band puts on a marching display (known as Beating Retreat) in the school's main quadrangle, consisting of intricate movements in quick and slow time as well as static pieces.
