Crack the Sky is an American progressive rock band formed in Weirton, West Virginia in the early 1970s. In 1975, Rolling Stone declared their first album "debut album of the year", and in 1978, Rolling Stone Record Guide compared them to Steely Dan; their first three albums charted on the Billboard 200. The band has never achieved great success outside the Baltimore area. Despite this, they continue to release albums and perform to a small but devoted fan base to this day.
Crack The Sky biography The band CRACK THE SKY started in the Ohio River valley (the members are originally from the Pittsburgh, PA area; John came from West Virginia to Pittsburgh). Originally named ARCANGEL, they became Crack the Sky when they signed with Lifesong records. They broke first in Pittsburgh, and eventually "emigrated" to and were "adopted" by the Baltimore, MD area. This album featured the title track, as well as a critique of the American "yuppie" lifestyle in Lost In America. The band played more shows at Hammerjacks in support of this album. The same year John released his third solo album, "Victim Of The Nightlife".
Chorus: Lost In America, lost In America Living in circles like we're dreaming.
Crack the Sky's synthesis of lush keyboards and sizzling electric guitars appealed to progressive rock fans, but they weren't so far out in left field that their appeal escaped the ears of more mainstream listeners. Crack the Sky had all the ingredients to be a monster band, but for the usual reasons (lack of airplay and most notably, a label that couldn't get their albums distributed properly) that success never came calling.
Crack the Sky is the debut album by American rock band Crack the Sky, released on LP in 1975 (see 1975 in music) by Lifesong Records (catalog In 1988, Lifesong released a CD pairing Crack the Sky with White Music on a single disc (LSCD-8801). In 2002, a reinvented and mastered CD of Crack the Sky was released. It included four bonus tracks: demo versions of "Let Me Go Home (A Visit to the Projects)", "Eileen, I Lean on You", and "Hold On"; and "Dr. Octopus Part 2" from the Spider-Man: Rock Reflections of a Superhero album
