The third Libertines album arrives 12 years after its predecessor. Like many resolutely British products, including Royal Doulton china and Dr Martens boots, its production was actually outsourced to Thailand: on one track, you can hear the sound of the waves breaking on the beach at Bang Saray  . The words of Heart of the Matter point to one reason why Anthems for Doomed Youth is a better album than anyone might reasonably expect.

Anthems for Doomed Youth. That the Libertines spend so little time revisiting their iconic sound on Anthems for Doomed Youth underscores that while it may have been sparked by how well-received their reunion concerts were, the bandmembers made this album primarily for themselves. In that regard, it's as authentic a return as a fan could ask for, and works equally well as a final chapter in the band's story or a new one. Track Listing.

The third album by British band The Libertines is named Anthems For Doomed Youth, and features a song of the same name. American composer Stephen Whitehead included an orchestral setting of "Anthem for Doomed Youth" as a movement in his orchestral piece "Three Laments on the Great War" for soloists and orchestra. The piece is scored as a duet for mezzo-soprano and bass/baritone with orchestra.

Doomed if they do, doomed if they don’t: such is the tricky spot the Libertines find themselves in on their first album since 2004’s implosion. More than most, the Libs can’t hope to recreate the volatility that first inspired them, unless they like hospital food. Nor can they change much, their identity being hopelessly entangled in the of reckless youth.

The Libertines on London, their reunion and ‘Anthems for Doomed Youth’. London’s most shambolic band, The Libertines are back with a new album and sense of purpose. Got any drugs?’ The Libertines are the Sunday headliners at Reading Festival.

Like recovery, Anthems for Doomed Youth takes things one step at a time. It's an absorbing listen front to back, rich with mood and gorgeous melodies. A third Libertines album once seemed about as likely as a fifth Smiths LP. Like recovery, Anthems for Doomed Youth takes things one step at a time. Over a decade after their heyday, the Libertines are still the only post-Britpop British indie band with an enduring mythology. That mythology began before the band even existed, written into being in Pete Doherty's journal.

Anthems for Doomed Youth' is in many ways a pleasing comeback. Doherty and Barat has an obvious talent for making excellent melodies with on point, reflective and personal lyrics. There is still the occasional miss like 'Fury Of Chonburi', but all in all 'Anthems' sees The Libertines back in form, something that a couple of years ago, would have seemed unthinkable.
