Description

Ifield toured the UK in 1963. While Vee-Jay Records temporarily had the US rights to a number of The Beatles' recordings, they released Jolly What! on 26 February 1964. The LP consisted of four studio Beatles songs (all previously released on Vee Jay singles), plus eight recordings of Ifield. Track listing Side 1. "Please Please Me" – The Beatles. Anytime" – Frank Ifield. Lovesick Blues" – Frank Ifield. I'm Smiling Now" – Frank Ifield. Nobody's Darling" – Frank Ifield.

Frank Ifield was born in 1937 in Coundon, Warwickshire, England, to Australian parents Richard Joseph Ifield (1909–1982) and Hannah Muriel Ifield (c. 1916–2012), as one of seven sons. Ifield also was featured on Jolly What!, a 1964 compilation comprising eight of his tracks and four by the Beatles, which has been considered an attempt to cash in on Beatlemania. Vee-Jay Records had gotten US distribution rights to The Beatles along with Ifield) Despite changing trends Ifield continued to have further top 40 hits in that decade.

In October of 1964, nearing the deadline at which Vee-Jay was no longer allowed to sell Beatles records, the label altered the title slightly and came up with a new cover portrait which features the Beatles prominently. This portrait was also used on the Tollie (a division of Vee-Jay) Love Me Do single.

This marketing ploy contains only four, previously released, studio tracks by the Beatles-"Please Please Me," "From Me To You," "Ask Me Why," and "Thank You Girl"-plus recordings by Frank Ifield (remembered for "I'll Remember You").

The back of the Jolly What! album jacket reveals the inclusion of only four Beatles songs: Please Please Me, From Me To You, Ask Me Why and Thank You Girl. These were the song that appeared on VJ 498 and VJ 522, the first two Beatles singles released in the United States.

The Beatles & Frank Ifield "Jolly What!" Rare 1964 LP Vinyl Record Sold for 3. 0 USD on 27 Nov 2018. There is a name written on the center label of the record, however it is not readily noticeable. Gently used LP. Not perfect, but still good. Cover in gently used - signs of surface wear and edges are a little worn, but overall, for being over 50 years old, I would say it's pretty decent. This Is unofficial version. The right one is with "stereo" in the middle on the top of the jacket.

I had a REAL (not 70's rip off) stereo copy of this Lp in Near Mint condition that I sold in 2007 for $250.00 and I'm kicking myself in the butt for selling it that cheap. Of the different label variations for this record, it was the rarest. I got it from a friends older brother who sold his original Beatles collection. What a find that was!

I have a copy strictly of just the vinyl that a friend working at a record store gave me for free. I can't find the sleeve! But its such a random, rare find. I'm not sure which label variation I have, but I was super excited to come across it!
