Refreshingly, this is a score and not an inspired by the movie collection of half arsed rock songs with the obligatory token 2 tracks of original score tagged onto the CD's end. Played by the Hollywood Studio Symphony, the music is loud, brash and incredibly exciting, reminiscent at times of Jerry Goldsmith in his late period, Danny Elfman's work for Tim Burton and Trevor Jones' score for Arachnaphobia.

Giant spiders attack a sleepy Arizona mining town. This movie is a nod-or a series of nods, really-to the classic B-movie "giant insect run amok" genre in the spirit of "Them!", "The Praying Mantis", and especially "Tarantula". A mixture of weird science gone wrong and shady double-dealing turns a local exotic spider collection into rampaging, man-eating monsters. Is it scientifically accurate? Hell, no. Is it great drama?

there is Arac Attack, or Eight Legged Freaks, depending on whichever title you prefer. In the theatres it seems to go by the latter name, although on the CD they hedge their bets and call it both! But putting that minor detail aside it's the music we're really interested in and Ottman's work here is playful and quirky, as with the sprightly opening track, 'Spider Mania', signalling to audiences that this is meant to be a fun ride and not to be taken too seriously.
