His current name is unknown after two divorces and name changes. With their album Hair and the single "Container Love", they experienced a commercial breakthrough and international recognition in 1989. Boa's music is influenced by British punk rock and new wave; its style swings between pop and avantgarde. Phillip Boa & the Voodooclub were formed in the western part of germany in 1985 by Phillip and 'Pia Lund', later joined by percussionist. .voodoodrummer 'The Voodoo' (all 3 had just entered university where they met ) and drummer, programmer 'Der Rabe'. Container Love' from the album 'Hair' was a minor hit in some European countries and, together with ''Kill your Ideals', 'Fine art in Silver', 'This is Michael', 'And then she kissed her' and 'Love on Sale', still is the band's most popular song. Phillip decided to 'stop' his international career, well aware of the fact that he would never receive that credibility and praise of the leading, influential journalists for longer than 3 albums.

The group's original line-up consisted of Pia Lund, Voodoo and Der Rabe. In the same year the band released their debut album Album, Philister. Philister was released on the Label JA! Music and landed in the german Indie-Charts. After the until now most successful album from the band, Boaphenia (released in 1993 on the label Motor Music), Phillip Boa committed himself to his Metal project Voodoocult. Further albums (God, 1994, She, 1996, Lord Garbage, 1998) were released in the following period on Motor Music. Alison Galea from the Maltese band Beangrowers took the place of Pia Lund after she left the band between 1997 and 2003.
