The second truth is that jazz could use a few more people with Washington’s cachet in the wider world-touring with Snoop Dogg, or putting out albums on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint. Admitting this is not tantamount to saying that jazz is in some unhealthy creative state (it isn’t), but rather that the music currently faces an uphill struggle in the marketplace (as it often has).

Life began for Kamasi Washington on February 18, 1981 in Los Angeles, California. In the Washington family music was more of a prerequisite than a privilege. But Kamasi never saw it that way, his love for music began at first sound.

Jazz voyager Kamasi Washington released an expansive, winding new song Truth. The 14-minute track is the sixth and final movement from his upcoming EP, Harmony of Difference, due out this summer via Young Turks. Truth unfurls with breezy piano chords, soulful electric guitar counter-melodies, wordless choral chants and washes of the bandleader’s smoldering saxophone. Harmony of Difference premiered in March, alongside a film by Rojas that also included artwork by Washington’s sister Amani Washington as part of the Biennial at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art. Throughout the EP, Washington explores the musical technique of counterpoint, which the avant-garde jazz player defines as the art of balancing similarity and difference to create harmony between separate melodies.

Kamasi Washington (born February 18, 1981) is an American jazz saxophonist, composer, producer, and bandleader. Washington is known mainly for playing tenor saxophone. Kamasi Washington was born in Los Angeles, California, on February 18, 1981 to musical parents and educators, and was raised in Inglewood, California. He is a graduate of the Academy of Music of Alexander Hamilton High School in Beverlywood, Los Angeles.

Really wish they'd release this on vinyl. Also, the 10 word minimum makes no sense.
