Shakanos Shakanos
The first European Free Jazz recording, originally released in 1965 on SABA. Sure, it is some 40+ years old now, and the musicians involved back then have moved on, but these tracks still remain fresh and captivating. This album has been OOP for a long time (even the Japanese re-issue on CD is OOP). Gunter Hampel has recorded a CD with the "Heartplants Quintet" released on his birth record label, but although most members of that latter recording are identical to the original quintet (with Arjen Gorter replacing Buschi Niebergall who died in 1990), the youthfulness and the immediate impact of the SABA recordings was not achieved again.
