Description

Riders of the Plague" is a great, underrated, undiscovered by the masses album, even though they're on Metal Blade ! It amazes me they haven't been exploited to death like a lot of new bands these days as such a label, considering they're on the same roster as bands Whitechapel, Unearth, and the fastest rising band in ears, Job for a Cowboy. Though honestly, it's a good thing, long as they keep releasing gold like this.

Riders of the Plague. Album (Studio full-length). Thrash Metal, Melodic Death Metal.

The Absence though is breaking the chain and releasing an album which will attempt to put them on par with other, more prominent bands. The formula is the standard melodic death style, with blistering solos, harmony-filled leads and technicality which is off the charts. The vocals sometimes make or break an album, and with Riders Of The Plague they do not disappoint at all. They are always screamed with a growl which is not too throaty and low but not really high-pitched, they fit the music well, and provide a great melancholic and depressive touch. It would be nice if there was some variance in the vocals, but with this genre there often isn't, which is perfectly fine with me, especially since the growled vocals are so damn good. Riders Of The Plague is one of the more enjoyable melodic death metal albums I have heard in the past few years, it provides.

The band's second album, Riders of the Plague, was released in 2007. In 2007, bassist Micheal Leon joined the band. 1) The Absence is an American Melodic Death Metal band from Tampa, Florida. Their style has been described as aggressive thrash metal with Scandinavian metal influences.

splint and shatter The touch of sunlight Like heavens plague, the birth of black With hung halos of wrath and decay The furthest of faith, the Rider of Plagues Our hands have reached thin of skin Sifted straight to bone Bare and broken as the inventors hope Unseen by the believed Unbelieved by all who see So when you become every dream abhorred

Riders of the Plague scores big on several huge plays, yet the CD’s top moment emerges during the perfect cover of Testament’s Into The Pit. Now The Absence and Testament sound almost nothing alike, and this risky cover isn’t noted differently aside from The Absence’s one norm: play it us, not like them. And from this comes a stellar version of Into The Pit with Steward’s best vocal performance to date, plus the hyper-pulsed percussion and riffing with traces of individualism all around. It wasn’t a groundbreaking album, but it was definitely a throwback to the classic Swedish metal sound that made the genre so popular in the mid to late 90's.

Once upon a time, Florida was a hotbed for death metal bands. And judging from the emergence of a group like the Absence, this aforementioned extreme metal style is still going strong in the area. On their sophomore full-length, 2007's Riders of the Plague, these Tampa natives unleash a downright ferocious racket - speed metal riffing, Iron Maiden-esque guitar harmonies, runaway train drumming, and more.
