1999 is the fifth studio album by American recording artist Prince, and the first to feature his band the Revolution. It was released on October 27, 1982, by Warner Bros. 1999 was Prince's first top ten album on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States (peaking at number 9, besting that peak at number 7 after his death in 2016), subsequently becoming the fifth best-selling album of 1983

From 1999 Till Now: originally a 1984 bootleg, mixed by Peter 'Hithouse' Slaghuis and unofficially released. You might recognize Peter's style: his 'stop and go' mixing and stutter sampling signature is the same as on the famous Discobreaks bootleg series. I've reconstructed the mix digitally in Ableton Live. Nu hoor ik op jouw mixcloud mixen van UB40, Nile Rodgers en M&M die ik graag zou willen uit zenden.

When Prince initially submitted the album to Warner Bros. 1999 did not exist, but the label asked him to produce a song that summarized the theme of the LP. The song was recorded at Kiowa Trail Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota on the same day as Little Red Corvette, August 7, 1982. It was mixed at Sunset Sound Studio in Hollywood. Prince gave a rare interview in 1999 when he spoke with Larry King on CNN. More surprisingly, he explained the meaning behind this song. Said Prince: We were sitting around watching a special about 1999, and a lot of people were talking about the year and speculating on what was going to happen. And I just found it real ironic how everyone that was around me whom I thought to be very optimistic people were dreading those days, and I always knew I’d be cool.

Released date October 1982. Labels Warner Music Group WEA.

Naturally, the effect was slightly more mechanical and robotic than his previous work and strongly recalled the electro-funk experiments of several underground funk and hip-hop artists at the time. Prince had also constructed an album dominated by computer funk, but he didn't simply rely on the extended instrumental grooves to carry the album - he didn't have to when his songwriting was improving by leaps and bounds

Tracklist: 1. 1999, 2. Little Red Corvette, 3. Delirious, 4. Let’s Pretend We’re Married, 5. . 6. Automatic, 7. Something In The Water (Does Not Compute), 8. Free, 9. Lady Cab Driver, 10. All The Critics Love U In New York, 11. International Lover. More albums from Prince: Piano & A Microphone 1983 by Prince. 3 Chains O’ Gold by Prince. One Nite Alon. ive! by Prince. Lotusflower by Prince.

Sure, Prince stretches out a bit too much over the course of 1999, but the result is a stunning display of raw talent, not wallowing indulgence.

I own a copy with black labels. Looks like some sort of a mispressing. On the label it says: The One (Lyrics by Nicky Doberty) Part One & Two / 33rpm“.
