Torus is the second studio album by British DJ and record producer Sub Focus. The album was released on 30 September 2013, through RAM Records, Mercury Records and Virgin EMI Records. It was originally used on his debut album cover and the shape has played a big part in his live shows as well as in promotion and artwork. His second album ‘Torus’ is a confused and often bland hotchpotch of pretty much every electronic genre that’s enjoyed mainstream success in the last four years. Thankfully, he hasn’t plumped for the easy, derivative, approach and made another straightforward bouncy D&B record like his debut. Unfortunately, what we get instead is wobbly, emotive dubstep (‘Falling Down’), faux-jackin’ ’90s house (‘Turn Back Time’), synth-pop (‘Out of Reach’), various nods to the glittery, puffed-up palace of EDM, and – yes – an undercurrent of dated D&B that never really kicks in like it should.
