Debussy: The Edgar Allen Poe Operas. Plans existed for further operatic projects and Debussy devoted himself intensely to two operas based on texts by Edgar Allen Poe during the last few years of his life which were dominated by ill health. He continued working on La Chute de la Maison Usher (The Fall of the House of Usher) until shortly before his death and was distraught at not being able to complete this composition. Le Diable dans le Beffroi (The Devil in the Belfry) has only survived in sketch form. Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher is a perfect story for a one-act opera.

The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra (French: Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo) is the main orchestra in the principality of Monaco. The orchestra gives concerts primarily in the Auditorium Rainier III, but also performs at the Salle des Princes in the Grimaldi Forum. The orchestra was founded in 1856 and gave its first concert on 14 December 1856, with an ensemble of 15 musicians, at the "Maison de jeux" (the future casino), under the direction of Alexandre Hermann.
