The Beatles topped the bill at the New Musical Express' 1963-64 Annual Poll-Winners' All-Star Concert, playing before an audience of 10,000 at the Empire Pool in Wembley, London. This was the group's first live performance for 15 weeks. The concert was filmed by ABC Television and was broadcast in two parts as Big Beat '64. The Beatles' performance was shown in part two, first shown on Sunday 10 May from . 5-5.
The NME Poll Winners Concerts took place between 1963 and 1966. The latter part of the 1960s saw the paper chart the rise of psychedelia and the continued dominance of British groups of the time On Sunday 26th April 1964, took to the stage at The Empire Pool in Wembley for the annual New Musical Express Poll Winners Concert. These concerts were amazing as they included every top British act of the time (and the occasional American) and this day was no exception.
The Beatles' 1965 tour of the United Kingdom was a concert tour that took place between 3 and 12 December 1965, comprising 18 shows at nine venues across England, Scotland and Wales. It coincided with the release of the Beatles' studio album Rubber Soul and their double A-side single "Day Tripper", "We Can Work It Out", and was the final UK tour undertaken by the band.
The striking album front cover features The Beatles making semaphore signals but these do not spell Help! The album went immediately to n. in the British charts remaining there for a total of nine of its 37 weeks in the Top Twenty. Yet again in the US, things were different. British fans may see the Beatles' most important concert ever - on television. The group will appear before nearly 60,000 fans at the Shea Stadium in New York on August 15 at the start of their second American tour. Ed Sullivan, America's most famous TV personality, will introduce them on stage at this show. Brian Epstein revealed exclusively to the NME on Wednesday: I am arranging to have the whole fantastic performance filmed, and, if it is suitable, I will arrange worldwide release for it almost immediately afterwards. 51 years ago today, April 11, 1965, the cream of the British music scene hit the stage at Wembley's Empire Pool Stadium for the NME Poll Winners Concert. There have been some amazing concerts over the years, but it would be hard to top a bill that included: The Moody Blues. Freddie and the Dreamers. Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames. Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders.
