Everything about Zomes, the solo project of Lungfish guitarist Asa Osborne, is simple. Start with his set-up- a single keyboard and a handful of pre-recorded beats. Then there's the way he plays. Each song relies on patience and repetition to produce its particular effect. Every so often, on both his self-titled 2008 debut and his new album Earth Grid, he'll drift into a cloud of ambience or a beat-less drone. But most of the time, he builds a small, basic melody over a small, basic beat, riding that pair of steady horses off into a hypnotic sunset. Whether you'll follow basically depends on whether you find a trembling keyboard chord something to get lost in or just a reason to get lost
Osborne recorded under the Zomes moniker for the first time in 2008 with an album by the same name. It consisted of a keyboard, muffled tom-tom and kick drum sounds, and occasionally sampled field recordings and guitar. Three years later, Osborne resurrects Zomes for Earth Grid. Recorded entirely on cassette, this is once again a collection of simple melodies played on a basic keyboard (perhaps a Casiotone) and/or guitar with minimal percussive backing. The opening track - and first single - unimaginatively entitled.
Written, played, and recorded entirely at home on cassette tape, Earth Grid, is an intimate and intentionally primitive recording. The album was mastered by Bob Weston. The cover art was created by Osborne whose reputation as a visual artist is growing. He has had several group and solo shows, including a show at New York's Mountain Fold Gallery with Lungfish singer and friend, Daniel Higgs.
GRID, released on January 25, 2006, is the eighth original album by the Japanese band . The catalogue code for this album is AVCT-10156/B with a bonus DVD, and AVCT-10157 without one. Their single, Raimei ~out of kontrol~ and Namida 3000 appeared as the opening and ending theme of Initial D Arcade Stage 4. "Gothica (Symphony N. )" – 1:25. FADED~色褪せたアルバム" – 5:11.
