Rose Tremain wanted to be a writer since childhood but avoided the conventional route of autobiographical fiction. Though some of her books have contemporary settings, it is as a historical novelist that she is best known. Nineteenth century New Zealand provides the backdrop for her new work. At the age of 11, while at boarding school, Rose Tremain experienced an epiphany. I remember standing in the middle of a very beautiful hayfield with the sun going down and thinking that I didn't want just to describe how beautiful I thought that place was but I wanted to write down all my feelings about it, and then try to make some equation between that place and what I felt about it and what hopes.

Matthew Herbert is a prolific and accomplished musician, artist, producer and writer whose range of innovative works extends from numerous albums (including the much-celebrated Bodily Functions) to Ivor Novello nominated film scores (Life in a Day) as well as music for the theatre, Broadway, TV, games and radio.
