Johnson formed the first version of the band in 1979, with synth player Keith Laws. The group, after opening for Scritti Politti, issued its first single "Controversial Subject" on the 4AD label in 1980. The The is an alternative/new wave band formed in 1979 in London, England. Matt Johnson (vocals, multiple instruments) is the only constant band member.
The sleeve of this version has subtle differences to the existing similar UK release. This one has the catalogue number in the top left corner of the sleeve instead of the bottom right corner. The Epic logo on the sleeve rear is solid blue instead of outlined in blue, and this version also carries a "SomeBizzare' logo in the bottom left corner of the sleeve rear.

The beaten generation, the beaten generation Reared on a diet of prejudice and mis-information The beaten generation, the beaten generation Open your eyes, open your imagination. We're being sedated by the gasoline fumes and hypnotised by the satellites Into believing what is good and what is right. You may be worshipping the temples of mammon Or lost in the prisons of religion But can you still walk back to happiness When you've nowhere left to run? Andif they send in the special police To deliver us from liberty and keep us from peace. Teile diesen Songtext.

Yes. The The - The Beat(en) ed that much. I'm here because of Guitar Hero, Nothing else. An lp that foresee the Bush one and Bush two's Kuwait and Iraq wars and the ugliness it left behind. The video gives it away - it's a clever plea to the 'beat' generation (60's) who've lost their ideals and us as the beaten one who just lie down and take it. Matt Johnson the underrated genius of 80's music. Mais ouvidas de The The. 01 You're Cheatin' Heart (Album Version). 02 The Beat(en) Generation. 04 Helpline Operator.
