The electronic music group Tangerine Dream has released more than one hundred albums, singles, EPs and compilations since the group was formed in 1967. Tangerine Dream's releases have been divided into several eras based on the record label of the time. Tangerine Dream's first releases were on the Ohr label.
Second album, Alpha Centauri, saw the addition of long-standing member Christopher Franke replacing Schulze, while Peter Baumann would come aboard for Zeit. Although unissued until the mid-1980s, Green Desert was recorded in 1973. The core of Froese, Franke and Baumann would sign to Virgin Records in 1973, and the subsequent release Phaedra would cement their style for years to come.
Rockoon is the forty-fourth album released by Tangerine Dream. The album was started in March 1991 and completed January 1992, making it the longest production ever in the band's history It is the first full album of Tangerine Dream music as a father and son duo. The album was re-released in 1999 on Tangerine Dream's own TDI label with new cover artwork by Edgar Froese.
