The song later appeared on the band's eponymous debut album Duran Duran, released in June, 1981.

Lyrics to "Planet Earth" song by Duran Duran: Only came outside to watch the night fall with the rain I heard you making patterns rhyme Like so. .This is planet earth, you're looking at planet earth Bop bop bop bop bop bop bop bop this is planet earth. My head is stuck on something precious Let me know if you're coming down to land Is there anybody out there trying to get through? My eyes are so cloudy I can't see you. Look now, look all around, there's no sign of life Voices, another sound, can you hear me now? Is is planet earth, you're looking at planet earth

Did that have an impact on Duran Duran? I’m specifically recalling hours spent trying to fathom out the lyrics on Seven And The Ragged Tiger as a 13-year-old. I remember when I first heard Fear Of A Black Planet it was, again, one of those moments when you thought ‘this is something’. It was still at the relatively early stages of rap, but Chuck D was really onto something. The sound of the tracks – the rhythm units they were using with those tiny percussion sounds – was unlike anything I’d heard. That’s why I chose it. Jay-Z has made some great records, as has Dr. Dre but Fear Of A Black Planet changed things.
Decade is a greatest hits album by Duran Duran, released on 15 November 1989 (see 1989 in music). The remix single "Burning the Ground" was released to radio to promote this album. It was created by producer John Jones by mixing snippets of the band's biggest hits from the previous decade into a new piece of music. However, the track was not included on the Decade album itself. The tracks "My Own Way" and "New Moon on Monday" were also not included, even though both were top 20 hits in the UK.

For Duran Duran "Planet Earth, Night Version", the original composition was totally decomposed, all with the band's consent and according to new ideas by the band. Every hook, every instrument, every word, every note. From the pieces, an entirely new composition was made, tailor-made for use after sunset (yes, mark the words, it is a Night version, not a Club version!). That means that the composition not only had to reflect the feeling of being in a night club but also on your way to a night club. And, above all things, the composition still had to be close to the original so people would recognise it from the album they bought, return to the record store for a copy of the twelve inch single that featured the "Night version" and as such expand their music collections with something rather unique.
