This is certainly a nice album for people who like to listen to Peter Gabriel making german-sounding noises, while not caring much what the words mean. For everyone else, I think it is noteworthy that the lyrics aren't very close to their original English versions. The German lyrics were written by some German state television employee named Horst Königstein, who thought of himself as a filmmaker, and had neither a linguistic nor a musical background or education

In lyrics and mixing, the album is noticeably different from the international release. Even the background vocals were redone in German.

In contrast, Deutsches Album differs from its international release in several ways.
