Peter Gabriel is the third eponymous solo album by English rock musician Peter Gabriel, released on 23 May 1980 by Charisma Records. The album has been acclaimed as Gabriel's artistic breakthrough as a solo artist and for establishing him as one of rock's most ambitious and innovative musicians

This following is the solo discography of Peter Gabriel, an English singer-songwriter, musician and humanitarian activist who rose to fame as the lead vocalist and flautist of the progressive rock band Genesis. After leaving Genesis, Gabriel went on to a successful solo career. His 1986 album, So, is his most commercially successful, selling five million copies in America, and the album's biggest hit, "Sledgehammer", won a record nine MTV Awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards.

Generally regarded as Peter Gabriel's finest record, his third eponymous album finds him coming into his own, crafting an album that's artier, stronger, more song-oriented than before. Consider its ominous opener, the controlled menace of "Intruder. He's never found such a scary sound, yet it's a sexy scare, one that is undeniably alluring, and he keeps this going throughout the record

Peter Gabriel III (Melt). Album, 30 Май 1980, Charisma. Peter Gabriel Plays Live. Live, 1983, Geffen, Virgin Records.

Peter Gabriel’s third solo album sticks in the mind like the haunted heroes of the best film noirs. With the obsessiveness of The Big Sleep (or, more aptly, Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless, since Gabriel is nothing if not self-conscious about his sources), the new LP’s exhilaration derives from paranoia, yet its theme isn’t fear so much as overwhelming guilt. Peter Gabriel is political rock, trapped halfway between the Gang of Four and Jackson Browne. Gabriel sees the personal horror in every issue - and the issue in every personal horror - and never pretends that the sight of so many open wounds doesn’t make him flinch. For this artist, the traditional ways in which most rock & roll bands get out of such traps - by asserting the possibilities of community or simply by cutting up - are merely cul-de-sacs.

Released 22nd May, 1980. Recorded both at his home studio at Ashcombe House, near Bath, and at London’s Townhouse Studios, Peter’s third self-titled album was produced by Steve Lillywhite. The album saw Peter change his writing style; now the rhythm came before the melody and the songs were built up on top of the rhythmic sequences. The album delivered a top 5 UK single in Games Without Frontiers and Peter’s first overtly political song in the shape of totemic closer Biko. It also features notable contributions from Kate Bush, Paul Weller, Phil Collins and David Rhodes. I think that the third album was quite important for me in terms of really having a defining sound and the band coming through. It was the first record where I was clearly doing something different from what other people were doing. I was looking around for some young, new and interesting people that I could work with.

25: the third album by Peter Gabriel and their most acclaimed in the community. This album includes the collaboration of Phill Collins in the drums The distribution for this album in the United States had a lot of problem, mainly because Atlantic Record didn't consider it the it would be a commercial success, arguing that it has too many experimentation and some African music influences. Other curious thing is that there is other version of the album with German vocals and some minor modifications in the music
