Bassist Nat Baldwin began his musical career focusing on improvisation and extended technique playing. The beginnings of his music saw him running with the East Coast scene of improvisers that included a group of Wesleyan University improvisers who studied with Anthony Braxton, and he collaborated . .Notable entries in Baldwin's discography of solo work included 2005's Lights Out, 2006's Enter the Winter, 2007's Most Valuable Player, and 2011's People Changes. In 2013 he released an album of older demo recordings entitled Dome Branches: The MVP Demos and followed in 2014 with the spare string arrangements of In the Hollows.

Nat Baldwin is a man that sounds like his biography, which in brief is something like the following; bass player in Dirty Projectors, protégée of 'free jazz guru' Anthony Braxton (with whom I can't say I'm familiar) and all round busy collaborator and solo artist in his own right. Each leaves a mark on People Changes, his fifth album, from his beguiling fluid falsetto to the bursts of squealing brass and off-kilter drum fills which flesh out the solid cello/double-bass centred melodies

Double riter Nat Baldwin’s forthcoming album People Changes is much like the stark Maine setting which it was created. Of course, his fourth full-length shows welcome markings of his experimental bent from years as the Dirty Projectors bassist and former disciple of free jazz legend Anthony Braxton, but the serene isolation of 17 million acres of New England forestland make this cabin-born set intimate and sincere. Baldwin first penned the songs in 2007, allowing the arrangements to evolve before the final recording in the spring of 2010.
