The Breeders would return in 2002 with the album Title TK. The song was originally titled "Grunggae," a combination of "grunge" and "reggae. The name came from Kim Deal thinking the accented riff resembled the accent in reggae. Most songs with the cannonball metaphor (Supertramp, Damien Rice) use it to indicate a person who is reckless in love. Deal's lyrics are designed to complement the melody; we wouldn't recommend reading too much into lyrics like "I'll be your whatever you want, the bong in this reggae song. The video was directed by Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon.

The Sphinx of Driz The Sphinx of Driz
I remember first seeing this track on MTV and I was 10 or so and it was so out there it just didn't make sense at all. I think it was first off all it's utterly bizarre intro and my command of english was decent due to me being exposed to english tv-channels yet i still didn't understand Kim Deal's vocals in most parts. But there was element i really liked, that bassline. Burned into my mind on the first listen, it's just so simple yet so good. and now it's circa 15 years after, and my impression of this one has changed it bit. The intro is not really bizarre any more, the vocaleffect brings to mind of the same groaningstyle as used on RDJ's Windowlicker. The lightlytapped percussion is a nice touch, the distortion brings to mind of 56k modem sounds. The song itself is a weird work of art, the lyrics are nicely random and Josephine Wiggs' bassline is still nothing short of awesome.
