Last Splash is the second album by indie rock band The Breeders, released in August 1993. Pixies bassist Kim Deal formed the band as a side project. Last Splash was the band's most successful album, certified Platinum by the RIAA for selling more than one million copies. The title of the album is taken from a lyric of its lead single, "Cannonball". This single has been used in many movie trailers, including Dude, Where's My Car? and South Park.
Joined by Deal's twin sister Kelley - with whom Kim started the band while they were still in their teens - the group expanded on the driving, polished sound of the Safari EP, surrounding its (plentiful) moments of brilliance with nearly as many unfinished ideas.
But on Last Splash, The Breeders' second album, Deal’s songwriting moved front and center (with some co-writing from her twin sister Kelley, who was also in the band), and what was once her side project became her main gig. It left no question about her talents, as the album sold more than Frank’s solo debut or any of the Pixies' albums. The brilliant Last Splash was also built for shifting attention spans: Its short songs ranged from the cotton candy single ‘Divine Hammer’ to a grungy, racing instrumental ’. ' which would later be sampled by .
A year after the success of Last Splash, drug and alcohol issues forced the band into hiatus in 1994, while both the Deal sisters did separate stints in rehab in the following years. During the band's hiatus, Kim Deal would also form the short-lived alternative rock band The Amps, recording a single album, Pacer in 1995, before eventually changing the band name back to The Breeders. In the late 1990s, Kim and Kelley reformed The Breeders with a new line-up (including members of the band Fear) and released two more albums, Title TK in 2002 and Mountain Battles in 2008
Breeders-Last Splash Album guitar tab, guitar tabs, bass tabs, chords and guitar pro tabs. The Breeders : Last Splash (album). I compiled this from various bits and pieces here and there, and tidied it all up. i make to claims to any of these - i just compiled it.
Genre: Alternative Rock. The album is solid but forgettable past a few tracks. Or consider a donation?
Last Splash, The Breeders’ triumphant second album, comfortably outsold Frank Black’s chugging solo debut – and every Pixies album, too, come to that. Even if Kim wasn’t into schadenfreude, it must’ve made up for being sidelined on the last two Pixies albums before being informed of their dissolution via fax. Ironically, it was Kim’s band that cleaved closest to the sound of the Pixies in their shitkicking pomp
