Love Is Hell combines both previous EPs of the same name, originally released as such by Lost Highway, wary of the lack of mainstream pop Adams had delivered them (causing the slighted musician to knock up the throwaway yet still utterly indispensable Rock 'n' Roll). Adams had a hell of time getting these songs out. The record company didn't want to release them as an album and forced them out as EPs. Now that we can listen to them as a complete piece we get the full picture of where Adams was going with these songs.

David Ryan Adams (born November 5, 1974) is an American singer-songwriter, t, record producer and poet. He is best known for his solo career, during which he has released 16 albums, and as a former member of rock/alternative country band Whiskeytown, with whom he recorded three studio albums. In 2000, Adams left Whiskeytown and released his debut solo album, Heartbreaker, to critical acclaim. The album was nominated for the Shortlist Music Prize.
