The Great Eastern is the third studio album by Scottish indie rock band The Delgados. It was released on 17 April 2000 in the United Kingdom on their own Chemikal Underground record label, and later on 9 May 2000 in the United States. The Great Eastern was their first album not to be named after a cycling theme – the title refers to a textile mill in Glasgow, latterly a hostel for the homeless.

On the Delgados' third album, their dreamy, loose-limbed, and slightly folky pop music continues to mature, and their skill at songwriting is increasingly matched by a talent for orchestration. Some listeners will find this trend off-putting, but be patient: The horn section on "The Past That Suits You Best" may sound pretentious on first listen, but it sounds perfect by the third. Ditto for the time signature changes on "Accused of Stealing," which is also distinguished by guitarist Emma Pollock's delightfully plain-spoken vocals.

The Great Eastern" was The Delgados' breakthrough album. the first album that really defined The Delgados' sound after two somewhat unfocussed rookie and sophomore releases (1997's Domestiques and 1999's Peloton). It combines their abilty to write catchy songs, as well as beautiful epic ones in a perfect balance/consistency, unlike"Hate" and "Universal Audio', but fewer real highlight tracks.
