During her prime, della Casa was a frequent flyer at the Salzburg Festival, but mainly in opera productions; EMI Classics' Lisa Della Casa: Lieder-Recital represents the first release of the only solo recital della Casa gave in Salzburg. It features della Casa in a varied menu of art songs as accompanied by pianist Arpad Sándor on August 11, 1957.

Lisa della Casa, one of the loveliest singers ever to grace the operatic stage, was born in Burgdorf near Berne in February 1919. Casa was 15 when she began vocal studies with Margarete Haeser in Zurich. In 1941 Casa made her debut as Butterfly in Solothurn-Biel and was later engaged by the Stadttheater in Zurich, remaining there for a number of years.

Lisa Della Casa (born Burgdorf, Switzerland, 2 February 1919 – 10 December 2012 Münsterlingen, Switzerland) was a Swiss soprano. She was famous from the 1950s to the mid- 1970s for singing some of the great roles in the operas of Mozart and Richard Strauss. She was known for the naturalness of her singing as well as for her beauty. Della Casa’s father was an Italian-Swiss doctor. Her mother came from Bavaria. She studied singing with Margarete Häser at the Zürich Conservatory
