Violinist Stephane Grappelli teamed up with the perfectly complementary Diz Disley Trio (featuring Disley and Ike Isaacs on guitar and bassist Isla Eckinger) for a spirited program of standards on this LP. Even if he has played some of these songs (such as "Shine" and "Ain't Misbehavin'") a countless numbers of times through the years, Grappelli never loses enthusiasm nor runs out of new variations. This LP will be hard to find but rewards anyone who can acquire a copy.

Other guitarists in the British "Diz Disley Trio" providing his instrumental backing over the years included Denny Wright, Ike Isaacs, the Irish guitarist Louis Stewart, John Etheridge and Martin Taylor, while double bass was often provided by Dutchman Jack Sewing; in his later years he also used a Parisian trio which included guitarist Marc Fosset and bassist Patrice Carratini. Grappelli recorded a solo for the title track of Pink Floyd's 1975 album Wish You Were Here.

St?phane Grappelli is a colleague whom I revere and would love to be able to emulate. In 1934 Reinhart and Grappelli formed the Quintette du Hot Club de France in Paris. It was a combo featuring three guitars, bass, and Grappelli on violin. With its gipsy swing, the band was the first purely European band that contributed to the evolution of jazz.
