Grappelli remained in Paris because he disliked Fuchs. At age 15, Grappelli began busking full-time to support himself. His playing caught the attention of an elderly violinist who invited him to accompany silent films in the pit orchestra at the Theatre Gaumont. In 1937, American jazz singer Adelaide Hall and her husband Bert Hicks opened the nightclub La Grosse Pomme in Montmartre. She entertained nightly and hired the Quintette as one of the house bands For the first three decades of his musical career, Grappelli was billed "Stephane Grappelly", a Gallicized form of his name. He took back the Italian spelling of his last name, he said, to keep people from pronouncing his surname "Grappell-eye".

? Stephane Grappelli. Grappelli was born at Hopital Lariboisiere in Paris, France, and christened with the name Stefano. His Italian father, marquess Ernesto Grappelli, was born in Alatri, Lazio, and his French mother, Anna Emilie Hanoque, was from St-Omer. In 1937, the American jazz singer Adelaide Hall and her husband Bert Hicks opened a nightclub, La Grosse Pomme, in Montmartre. She entertained nightly and hired the Quintette as one of the house bands. Also in the neighborhood was the artistic salon of R-26, at which Grappelli and Reinhardt performed regularly. For the first three decades of his musical career, Grappelli was billed as Stephane Grappelly, a gallicized form of his name.

Stephane Grappelli was born in Paris in 1908. Largely self-taught on the violin and piano, Grappelli studied briefly at the Paris Conservatoire before meeting the gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt- Charlie Parker to his Dizzy Gillespie. From 1933 through 1939, Grappelli and Reinhardt, as member of the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, recorded some of the most memorable jazz on the main continent. In 1939, while performing in England, World War II broke out and Reinhardt decided to return to France, while Grappelli elected to remain in England. Stephane's Tune is a collection of Grappelli memorabilia recorded between 1938 and 1942 with Reinhardt, Arthur Young and Hatchett's Swingtet. These recordings were culled from the Decca catalog and recorded at 11 separate recording dates.

With violinist Stephane Grappelli, Reinhardt formed the Paris-based Quintette du Hot Club de France in 1934. The group was among the first to play jazz that featured the guitar as a lead instrument. Reinhardt recorded in France with many visiting American musicians, including Coleman Hawkins and Benny Carter, and briefly toured the United States with Duke Ellington's orchestra in 1946. Reinhardt was born on 23 January 1910 in Liberchies, Pont-a-Celles, Belgium, into a Belgian family of Manouche Romani descent. His father was Jean Eugene Weiss, but domiciled in Paris with his wife, he went by Jean-Baptiste Reinhardt, his wife's surname, to avoid French military conscription. His mother, Laurence Reinhardt, was a dancer.
