If Smith is nervous about the new record, it’s only because the band’s stature has grown immensely in the four years since its last release, 2000’s Bloodflowers. During that time, a number of alternative bands have come out of the closet and expressed their adamant devotion to the group. Several of them will be opening for the band this summer on the inaugural Curiousa Festival 2004 tour, including the Rapture, Interpol, Thursday and Cursive.
