Born Again is the eleventh studio album by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Released in August of 1983, it is the first and only album the group recorded with lead vocalist Ian Gillan, best known for his work with Deep Purple. It was also the last Black Sabbath album for nine years to feature original bassist Geezer Butler and the last to feature original drummer Bill Ward, though Ward did record a studio track with the band fifteen years later on their 1998 live album Reunion
The idea sure looked good on paper, but when former Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan joined Black Sabbath for 1983's dreadful Born Again album, the grim reality was that Gillan's bluesy vocal style and oftentimes humorous lyrics were completely incompatible with the lords of doom and gloom
According to legend, the infamous cover art for this album was done by an artist who was working for both Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne, and the story goes that he made an intentionally poor job of it in the hope that Sabbath would reject it so that he could sever ties with them. As it turned out, Tony Iommi loved it (although Ian Gillan thought it was appalling). It is a common misconception that the "Stonehenge" scene in This Is Spinal Tap was inspired by Black Sabbath's stage set for this album's tour
Black Sabbath's classic album Born Again turned 35 this month. by Wiz MeyersAugust 14, 2018August 14, 20180. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the release of Born Again by Black Sabbath on the Vertigo/Warner Brothers Label. While there is no question of the huge influence Black Sabbath had in defining the early heavy metal scene, their recorded works in the 1980s and 90s were not as commercially or artistically successful
As you look through my window Deep into my room At the tapestries all faded Their vague and distant glories Concealed in the gloom The icy fingers of forgotten passions Softly brushing my lips At the tips of my primitive soul. As you look through my door Deep into my room Can you feel the mighty wall of power It’s waiting, waiting in the gloom The distant shadows of forgotten champions Those who live in me still And will rise when we challenge and kill. Back in the Summer of 1984, there was a late-night TV broadcast of Black Sabbath on the Born Again tour. Somebody, somewhere must have a VHS copy of the TV broadcast. And NO, it wasn’t the lip-synched Rock Palace video or the audience footage from Montreal, it was close-up, on-stage video.
