Diane Marie Jacobs (born 19 August 1943, Waimate), known as Dinah Lee, is a New Zealand-born singer who performed 1960s pop and then adult contemporary music. Her debut single from early 1964, "Don't You Know Yockomo?", achieved No. 1 chart success in New Zealand and in the Australian cities, Brisbane and Melbourne. It was followed in September by her cover version of Jackie Wilson's, "Reet Petite", which also reached No. 1 in New Zealand and peaked at No. 6 in Melbourne. The Australian release was a double A-sided single with "Do the Blue Beat&qu. ead.
The first single "Don't You Know Yockomo"/"You Don't Talk About Love" was released in August 1964 under the name Diane Lee. Within two weeks the single was in the top 40 and before long had peaked in the top 20. It generated a lot of interest from the media and suddenly Diane was 'Queen Of The Mods'. Viking issued her fourth single, "Who Stole The Sugar"/"Rock Around The Clock" in November 1964. Like the others, it also did well on the charts. Considering that she had only been recording for four months, Viking had released four huge singles, two EP's and her debut album called "Introducing Dinah Lee". In total, she had sold over 100,000 units in that time. Once again Australia differed with the release of their third single. HMV chose to take "I'm Walkin' " from the album and put "Who Stole The Sugar" on the flip-side.
"Don't You Know Yockomo?" was originally released on Viking Records by Diane Lee in August 1964. in September and subsequently appeared on her debut album, Introducing Dinah Lee later in the year. Four tracks, including "Don't You Know Yockomo?" and "Reet Petite" had been recorded in the studio with backing by Max Merritt & his Meteors. Merritt and his band were.
