George Chesterton: Kate Bush's second album may have been a rushed disappointment, but it provided one undisputed highlight.

Lionheart is the second studio album by the English singer-songwriter Kate Bush. It was released in November 1978, just nine months after Bush's successful debut album The Kick Inside. Lionheart reached no. 6 on the UK Albums Chart (her only album not to make the top 5) and has been certified Platinum by the BPI. The first single taken from the album, "Hammer Horror", missed the UK Top 40. However, the follow-up single, "Wow", was released on the back of Bush's UK tour and became a UK Top 20 hit.
Kate Bush’s second album may have been a rushed disappointment, but it provided one undisputed highlight. Wow was the second single from Kate Bush‘s difficult second album, Lionheart. It was difficult not for the usual reasons – overindulgence, procrastination, artistic crises – but because it was rushed. Lionheart came out only nine months after her debut, The Kick Inside, and frankly, it’s a bit of a stinker.

According to Kate, the song was about the music business and show business in general. Wow' was released as a 7" single in various territories. The Canadian single featured a unique sleeve and was pressed on transparent yellow vinyl. When a video compilation was released in 1986 for the compilation album The Whole Story, a new video was made of "Wow", featuring a montage of Bush performing live in concert. Kate Bush made a guest appearance on the TV Special ABBA in Switzerland, where she performed this song in April 1979. The music paper Sounds seemed a little underwhelmed by 'Wow': "I hear this mediocre chanteuse crooning her way through this silly song.
If you google images for Kate Bush Lyrics Wow, I came across a scan of what looked like the back of the single cover, and the word is clearly Vaseline. Rj from Cleveland, Oh@all those of you who deny the line is "hitting the vaseline," watch the embedded video. kate actually pats her rump while singing it. yes, it is "vaseline," and yes, it does mean "that. Tony from Cleveland, OhI don't think 'Wow' has anything to do with homosexuality. The album Lionheart was full of references to British pop culture at the time. I believe the song was a homage to a comedian named Mark Arden. Mark Arden starred in TV and radio as well as on stage so he was very versatile. He was well known for starring in an award winning comedy called 'The Wow Show' which is what I think the title is referring to. Mark Arden also played Roland 'Vaseline' Cartwright in the show London's Burning.
Wow" is a song by English singer Kate Bush. Originally released on her second album Lionheart in 1978, it was issued as the album's second single in March 1979. It was a top 20 hit in the UK. "'Wow' is about the music business," she told her KBC fan club magazine in 1979. Not just rock music but show business in general. It was sparked off when I sat down to try to write a Pink Floyd song – something spacey. The lyrics include a reference to Vaseline as a sexual lubricant.
