Janis Ian (born Janis Eddy Fink; April 7, 1951) is an American singer-songwriter who was most commercially successful in the 1960s and 1970s; her most widely recognized song, "At Seventeen", was released as a single from her 1975 album Between the Lines which reached number 1 on the Billboard chart. Born in 1951 in New York City, Ian entered the American folk music scene while still a teenager in the mid-1960s

Though Ian is a prolific composer and world-famous for her music and performances, this is the musician’s only book of poetry. It was first published in 1969, and has become a collector’s item in print. Janis Ian wrote almost all of the poems during her teen years, a time when she was first thrust into the national and international spotlight as a songwriter and voice.

Singer, songwriter, born Janis Eddy Fink on April 7th, 1951 in New York City, USA. In 1964, she legally changed her name to Janis Ian, taking her brother Eric's middle name as her new surname.

All my life I've waitedFor someone to take the painAll my life, I've waitedFor someone to take the blameAnd now you're goneEven the sun's calling your name. See, in the city,The lights they shine pretty In afterglow scented by rainLittle old ladiesAsleep in the cradling womb, Surrounded by painGod, the pain.
