The Legend of 1900 marks the first collaboration between director Giuseppe Tornatore and legendary film composer Ennio Morricone since 1989's critically adored Cinema Paradiso, and the results are worth the wait. The film concerns a virtuoso pianist, so the opportunities for stunning musical performances are plentiful; Morricone's score is embellished by pieces from ragtime legends Scott Joplin and Jelly Roll Morton, as well as an original rock ballad with lyrics written and sung by Roger Waters and guitar work from Eddie Van Halen.

Mainly he was disappointed that Carpenter, after publicly stating he wanted a European sound to the music, simply used the music that sounded most like his own compositions. Further insult was added when Carpenter created several cues to mix in with Morricone's (even as a youngster I could clearly recognize Carpenter's work when I heard it in the film on its opening weekend).

Waxwork Records goes all out with its deluxe vinyl reissue of Ennio Morricone’s minimal score to John Carpenter’s The Thing-a 1982 box-office stiff that has only this century become a horror classic. Following decades of success in Europe and his iconic scores for spaghetti westerns, Morricone was only just making inroads into Hollywood.

According to PayPal terms none of these records on here are mint because they have a pressing issue. I have just lost a case because I said the media was mint and the guy knew about the pressing issues accepted them over email then opened up a PayPal dispute saying Not as discribed mint media doesn’t have pressing issues and I have to give a full refund and now the vinyl has been played.

weather or not its rarer than its import stamp counterpart doesnt matter to me. the fact i have one of my fav soundtraks on lp is great as it is. fans of this should look into it as it really is kinda special. what makes it evern more interesting is the fact that most of the songs were not included in the movie so for collectors this really will be quite special

All i have read about this release is complaints of a ton of surface noise. Glad I read before I plunked down big bucks for the few copies that are out there.

Surface noise is common among mixed-color pressings. Something to do with the different melting temperatures regarding the colors.

Very nice object… to display ! If I didn't open the seal personally, I could think it a "used" LP… it "cracks" during 10 minutes on side A, "pops" on side B, a shame a for a new vinyl. And no comments from Waxwork.

How is the quality of the first pressing ? (pop, click, ?) Which is the best pressing?

I own the original 1982 American pressing. Apparently its better than the WAXWORK remaster but from what I can tell its great and im sure the European pressing is fine as well

The copy of the snow edition i have ( purchased new) has some of the most distracting surface noise and high end harshness on side 2 that I have come across on any recent modern day pressing from any company.Really not very good at all.

Fantastic packaging here. Good mastering too, although my copy has a bit of surface noise.

While this may lack the admittedly incredible art, heft and unique packaging of the most recent "boutique" pressing, this is the one you may want to spend your dollars on if your focus is on the listening experience. Great dynamics and an incredible record!

Agree completely. I've owned both but sold the (gorgeous) Waxwork version soon after it arrived. The original MCA pressing sounds so much better.

i have loud popping on Side one track 5. about one and a half minutes of it. Real shame, it does ruin that track.

I bought it yesterday (it took time to arrive in stores in France) and I have the same issue with Humanity part.1 getting a lot of surface noise. Everything else is ok and I didn't notice any static pops. I use an Ortophon OM 5E.

Why does almost no one sell internationally? Never seen this on another release before. And why are everyone deciding to sell just now?

Coloured wax always sounds inferior to standard black vinyl. I'll stick to my original 82 pressing and save myself big bucks. When the records spinning on the the turntable it doesn't matter how fancy the sleeve is...

REENO Multi-colored records are noisy because different colored vinyl melt at different temperatures. Solid colored vinyl is fine. Thats one possibility, but also, to have the same noise floor you have to have the exact same quality of vinyl and often the pellets of different color come from different places and different vinyl qualities, or so I speculate.

InDustWeTrust REENO Not true. In fact, BLACK vinyl is actually colored vinyl. Raw polyvinyl chloride is actually clear. This is correct but somewhat misleading. Raw vinyl is clear, but blackening it with carbon produces better-sounding, longer-lasting records. So far as I know, no other colorant typically added to raw vinyl actually improves its performance in this application, and the elaborately multicolored pressings so trendy at the moment often do result in significantly increased surface noise. Carbon black does improve malluability and decreases friction, but does allow static to build up. Any color can have these qualities as far as I know. Its just that other colors appeal more for display than play which is why they are associated with bad quality. Get a company like Mofi to do other colors and it will be just as hood as black though. saf45king is just ignorant.

I'm curious if my copy is a rarer copy of the white version. There is a little bit of red splatter in both LPs of my white version. Was wondering has anyone else come across this?
Bludsong Bludsong
Hi Greg - its quite normal to find abit of residual colour (used for other records being pressed at the time) on a white vinyl release. It just means before they set up the machines to press the white vinyl, they were pressing red vinyl before it. A few pieces of red vinyl then made it onto yours. So.....you could say that your white vinyl was one of the first to come off the machine! That's a nice surprise. You have a proper first press....might even be the very first one. Hope that helps

Is there going to be a second pressing of this or not? I hear complaints and its sold out on Waxworks, but will they make more?
Sarin Sarin
Was already repressed once. They told me they are done with this one.

I missed out on the first pressing. I bought my copies on 15th February (both the white and deluxe versions). I'm quite certain waxwork records realised there was a problem with the first pressing - which is why they did a pre-order for the 'second pressing' within a day or two. Given that I'm still waiting for £284 worth of juicy waxwork records to arrive in the United Kingdom (love being raped on their shipping charges) I'm hoping they have sorted this defect. If not, it will be a great pleasure to demand a refund. Given the price we pay for new vinyl these days - defects and sub standard listening experiences should not be tolerated

digitalscreams Unfortunately the repress also sold out within hours on February 15th. If you are looking to buy a copy then you should ask the seller if the copy was the 1st or second press. Go with the second press... Is there a way to tell if its first or second press by looking at the sleeve or record matrix?

The shipping has nothing to do with Waxwork. I ship records and other items internationally as well, and the postal system raises the rates each year. Sellers have no control over this.

Everyone who bought the first press snow and deluxe experienced major playback issues and noise. Apparently it was a crappy pressing. When I spoke to Waxwork they told me they were aware of the problem and were getting a 'repress' done. The reason its taken so long (6 months) is because they had to re-do the stampers etc. Not a quick job...
Samardenob Samardenob
fivestarmarc They did a re press so soon because the first press literally sold out in the first few hours. There was a whole bunch of pissed off people Can you still buy the re presses and if so where? Or if not, will they make a second batch and sell more or is my only bet to get it from here?

This is the coolest vinyl release of all time! This entire package is gorgeous.
Capella Capella
I'm on my second copy of the 'snow white' variant and both copies have plenty of static pops and surface noise, which, as others have pointed out, is most prevalent on 'Humanity (Part 1)'. It's also worth noting that I have a copy of the 'trapped in ice' variant as well and all three copies have had the same static/scratch/hiss at the beginning of 'Eternity', which suggests a pressing defect. With these issues, I'll probably end up sticking with spinning the '82 release more than these represses. If you're looking to buy, you might consider looking at the original, too.
Darksinger Darksinger
Classic soundtrack that's as good to listen to as a piece of stand-alone music as it is to accompany the classic film.
Ber Ber
Just received my copy today (Canada) and my copy has the same issue. Constant static pops on the first track Humanity (Part 1) then decent sound for side one. Side 2, more pops and surface noise for most tracks. However, I notice some black spot on the vinyl maybe that is why I here the pops and surface noise. I will ask for a replacement or just get a refund. What a shame.

Nope. But I can watch the movie over and over again...

Even after proper cleaning, still static pops on the first track Humanity (Part 1). Rest of the copy sounds perfect.

My copy has plenty of surface noise as well. I hope to hear from others.

Both a friend's and my copy have non-fill. Random static. I think this pressing is defective. Anyone else?

Skatan81 the problem with all that fancy repressings is that the whole focus is on the packaging and the color vinyl .. all kind of repressings usualy sound total crap compared to the original pressings .. i was really disapointed when i got my delux version of city of the living dead . the sound was like a webripp compared to the way cheaper original pressing from stella records ... Will they remaster it or remake the pressing any time soon or is it best to just go with the original? I am an aesthetic person as well and really like good looking packaging and such. THe original has some really bland and ugly sleeves so it really turns me off, but is it really that much mastering and pressing wise? So far I mostly hear pressing problems but if the mastering is garbage as well then it truly is a turd covered in gold.
