Tena Novak biography TENA NOVAK formed in Zagreb in 2003. After a several line-up changes (new bass player and a drummer), the band founded their own, unique sound with Tena Novak on electric violin, Kresimir Pauk on bass, Mario Kovač - sound effects, Hrvoje Radnić on guitars, Hrvoje Niksić on keyboards (mostly Fender Rhodes piano)and Igor Pauk on drums. Marko Caklovic was doing visuals for the band. Hrvoje Radnić (ex KWADRAT NODNOLL. is a big fan of americana, . VELVET UNDERGROUND and post rock and rock with more experimental approach as well. They published a self-titled album (doubl CD) in 2006 for Mr. Franjić's "Slusaj najglasnije!" label, and disbanded shortly after, although there are plans for the reunion in a different line-up, perhaps even without Ms. Novak (but under the same name). Their music can be described as post-rock with krautrock overtones.

Wed, 21 Aug 13: Your Imaginary FriendBrownian MotionAlbum ReviewYour Imaginary FriendReviewed 2006-12-19 Violin led instrumental post’ish rock, prog’ish psychedelic rock sent to us from our Croatian pals. Lush use of trippy electronics and effects, interestingly played violin, and solid guitar bass and drums. This is hard to pidgeon-hole, but sometimes reminds me altogether of Can, The Dirty Three, later Stereolab/American Analog Set, stuff on Ninja Tune, and Acid Mothers Temple. Experimental elements for sure in its beautiful improv feel. This could fit in anyone’s set, from indie rock to electronica to psychedelic space. Two discs: the first has 7 longish but radio friendly tracks, the second is an incredible 69 minute epic jam. Pick any.Disc 1:1) a beautiful minimal intro with Fender Rhodes and violin, finally reaches a point where the band explodes but then goes down again, then after 7 min the full wallop of full near kraut-prog rock arises2) super cool proggy post-whatever, chill with violin, breakdown toward end to slowness3) starts with subtle trippy sounds, guitar comes in mellow arpeggio and chill song evolves4) slow spacey start to an upbeat rhythm, sad violin melodies, hook5) upbeat jam with Fender Rhodes tinkling in foreground6) very chill, incorporates some heavily treated vocalizations7) skippy beat, chill, grows almost subsonic quiet after 8 minutes then slowly comes back and ends up rocking out like it hasn’t yet, wow!Disc 2: 69 minute jam incorporating all of the above into something of epic proportions.Track Listing1.
