Church of Misery (チャーチ・オブ・ミザリー Chāchi obu Mizarī) is a doom metal band from Tokyo, Japan, formed in 1995. Church of Misery's musical style melds early Black Sabbath-style doom with psychedelic rock; most of the band's songs are about serial killers and mass murderers. Bassist Tatsu Mikami has been the sole constant member in their line-up.

1 is the debut album of Church of Misery. Originally considered as an advance demo by the band it is considered by some to be their debut album though the band themselves for a time considered Master of Brutality to be their first full-length.

1' is indeed very much Church of Misery-esque. It's definitely doom metal with a hint of fuzzy stoner elements; the very same ingredients used in the band's music today. Bassist Tatsu Mikami is and has always been the only constant member of the band, so the sound varies from album to album. This is perhaps the most notable difference between 'Vol. 1 Church of Misery' and 'Master of Brutality and The. Another key difference is the overall theme the band has gone, since the recording of 'Vol. 1'. With this being the Church of Misery's first recorded album, the lyrical themes aren't solely focusing on serial killers; something the band has done ever since. This is also a reason Mikami decided to stash 'Vol. 1' is a decent album, but lacks the intensity and "fullness" heard on other albums to the point where it becomes difficult to focus on listening properly.
