In 1968, three sisters from Fremont, New Hampshire strapped on their instruments and declared themselves The Shaggs. At that moment begun a peculiar tale that would last far beyond the group's five-year run. Dot, Betty and Helen (and occasionally Rachel, the fourth sister) played in the group on the insistence of their father, Austin Wiggin, who was convinced they were going to be big. His prediction didn't quite prove prophetic. The band released one album, Philosophy Of The World, which must rank among the most polarizing LPs of all time. Some said it was the worst thing ever made.
The Shaggs – Sweet Maria b/w The Missouri Waltz (Missouri State Song), 7″. Considering The Shaggs are better than the Beatles and I’ve never heard these two tunes before, this new 7″ looks pretty promising. Sun Ra – Spaceways, LP. Sun Ra live recordings are always a fun listen, you never really know what you’re going to get.

Sweet Maria" is the highlight, could've easily fit onto their collection "Shaggs' Own Thing" (pretty underrated btw, fans of their other album need to check this LP out). Light in the Attic is also reissuing their classic "Philosophy of the World" later this year. Jan Hammer – "Miami Vice Theme". com/watch?v yQA7NN9vptU Just a bit of quintessential '80s fun. This 45 is all I need from ol' Jan Hammer. Love Imgur? Join our team!
In 1968, three sisters from Fremont, New Hampshire strapped on their instruments and declared themselves The Shaggs. This special 7" single features the previously unheard Sweet Maria and The Missouri Waltz (state song of Missouri, no less). It's the tip of the iceberg – a reissue of the full album Philosophy Of The World follows from Light In The Attic next year. To the uninitiated, the discordant vocals, slightly out-of-tune guitars, and slightly out-of- step drum-thumping might sound like a hot mess; and that's just Sweet Maria, before they've attempted 3/3 time on the haunting but tipsily performed waltz.

THE SHAGGS – Sweet Maria / Missouri Waltz. Label: Light In The Attic. Format: 7-inch vinyl. Cool kids listen to the Shaggs. Formed in 1968 by three sisters in New Hampshire whose father believed they were destined for success, they were some of the original outsiders. Sure, they couldn’t really play their instruments, but now that’s a time honored tradition.
