Although the album only peaked at number 23 on the . album charts, it was a Top Ten hit in just about every other area of the world, producing the huge single "Radio Ga G. Three other tracks were hits in Queen's native England - the uplifting "I Want to Break Free," the love song "It's a Hard Life," and the politically conscious rocker "Hammer to Fall," which dealt with the danger of nuclear weapons.
Queen’s 11th studio album, ‘The Works’, was a return to rock album, though they didn’t entirely discard the grooves found on ‘The Game’ and ‘Hot Space’. Published on. February 27, 2019. Their new album’s title hinted at something more familiar: The Works implied several things. It was an appropriate response to the UK slang term for something efficacious. It also lent itself to the less prosaic and all-encompassing idea that the band were delivering their best shot: this is it – this is the works. In the studio, the album came together over a six-month period, from high summer 1983 to the depths of winter 1984. Recording began at the Record Plant in Los Angeles, before the band returned to Musicland Studios in Munich to work with Reinhold Mack and David Richards

The Works was sort of a comeback album by Queen in 1984. We say sort of because the group never really went away, they just faced a major commercial flop with their previous effort, a quasi-disco record called Hot Space, which seemed woefully outdated in 1982. In this light, The Works was a return to form, albeit with strong eighties sonic and arrangement sensibilities
The Works (Queen album). For Queen's 1985 boxed set, see The Complete Works (Queen album). Following the release of and subsequent touring for their 1982 album Hot Space, the four members of Queen opted to take a break from the band the following year. While a spring tour of South America had been an early possibility, especially in light of the band's success there two years earlier, equipment and promotional problems brought an end to these plans. Brian May worked with Eddie Van Halen and others on the Star Fleet Project, while Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury began work on their own solo albums (Strange. Frontier and Mr. Bad Guy, respectively)
Chapter XI: Haven't We Heard This Before". Queen's tenth effort Hot Space alienated a lot of the band's fanbase, many believing that the group's dance influence went way overboard. It was certainly a huge departure from the normal Queen sound, being more restrained and poppy than their previous efforts. So what did they do with their next record The Works" They made more hard-rocking tunes again! Unfortunately, they also spend most of the record rehashing their old material and boring listeners to death
