Pierre Bensusan (born 30 October 1957) is a French-Algerian acoustic guitarist. As Sephardic Jews, his family came from Spain, Spanish Morocco, and French Algeria. His music has been characterized as Celtic, folk, world music, New-age, and chamber jazz. He has published three books of music and tablature. He plays in DADGAD tuning. Born in 1957 in Oran, French Algeria he moved to Paris with his family when he was four years old. He studied piano and classical music at the age of seven.

Pierre Bensusan's 1988 release on the prestigious US label, CBS Masterworks, which reached the US Jazz Charts, is his first album featuring the Pierre Bensusan Ensemble. Spices showcases Pierre's fluid orchestral sound and amazing technique, and combines gorgeous guitar solos with vivid ensemble pieces. The tunes range from light swinging Jazz to Latin, from Baroque to Middle Eastern, Funk and Vocal Tracks. While there were still laid-back, impressionistic and light songs, Bensusan played with more intensity, stretching out on guitar and going beyond restating the melody and adding teasing, nimble voicings. On "Presqu'ile," "Les Voiles Catalanes" and "Montsegur," his riffs had bite and edge. Where most of his other albums were almost totally atmospheric, with rhythm either implied or almost missing, this CD had a pronounced Afro-Latin and African tinge at times, due to percussionist Denis Benharrosh

I found both to be refreshingly different, both from other music in my collection, and from each other. I don't particularly care for track 7. No particular reason, I just don't.
