Olias Of Sunhillow is the debut studio album of Jon Anderson and was released in 1976. The performance on the album was all only in charge of Jon Anderson. He played every kind of musical instruments by himself. Olias Of Sunhillow is a conceptual album inspired by the writings of Vera Stanley Alder, an American portrait painter and mystic woman which wrote several books on self-help and spirituality and also founded the World Guardian fellowship. Anderson developed the entire story around the idea of an interstellar exodus from a place, a planet named Sunhillow, and he wrote the lyrics around the narrative based on the character of a spaceship’s architect named Olias. In short, Olias Of Sunhillow tells us the story of an alien race and their journey to a new world due to a catastrophe.
Olias of Sunhillow is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter and t Jon Anderson, released in July 1976 on Atlantic Records. Olias of Sunhillow is a progressive rock concept album which tells the story of an alien race and their journey to a new world (the story printed in the LP jacket calls it "the earth", lowercase 'e') due to a volcanic catastrophe. Olias, the title character, is the chosen architect of the glider Moorglade Mover, which will be used to fly his people to their new home. Ranyart is the navigator for the glider, and Qoquaq (pronounced 'ko-quake') is the leader who unites the four tribes of Sunhillow to partake in the exodus.
Jon Anderson is revisiting Olias Of Sunhillow on its 40th anniversary, which also coincides with the release of Invention Of Knowledge, his collaboration with The Flower Kings’ bandleader Roine Stolt. The two albums are connected, and not just by having Anderson’s name on the cover. Invention Of Knowledge is another stage on its co-creator’s spiritual journey. Olias Of Sunhillow was a UK N. hit and made the Billboard Top 50. An unashamedly romantic solo album that combines grace, taste and power, wrote Yes aficionado Chris Welch in Melody Maker. Welch also saw similarities between its fusion of folk imagery and space and science fiction writer Brian Aldiss’ novels Non-Stop and Hothouse.
Olias of Sunhillow is a progressive rock concept album by Jon Anderson, the lead singer of the band Yes. It was his first solo album in 1976. He plays all instruments and does all vocals on the album. Dean wasn't present for the art (he was always closest to Howe), so the album sports a lavishly illustrated sleeve from David Roe. Prior to this, his first solo record, Anderson had struck a friendship with Vangelis
