Drexciya arguably stands for the darker side of techno and electro, music not only made for the club scene, but a further development of the music as an expression and extension of the mind. 20 years after the release of ''Deep Sea Dweller'' (their first release), and 10 years after ''Grava 4'' (their last), we present ''Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller''. This series is an almost complete collection of their early works, and is remastered from the original master tapes. Since the original releases have such a strong character, appeal.

I have a nice stockpile left. Unfortunately, Journey of the Deep Sea Dweller I barely draws from this mythical archive. Unknown Journey" seems to be the only new track; the rest being sourced from eight previous records. Featuring thunderous 909 percs and a frenetic 303, it sounds more like something Hardfloor would create. Drexciya's more tuneful pieces aren't neglected either. Welcome to Drexciya" and "Dehydration" take care of this, bookending the release nicely. In all, it's a frank appraisal of the duo's career, with dated cuts like "Rubick's Cube" and "Take Your Mind" also included.

This is the third part (of four) of a reissue series of Drexciya's early catalogue. All audio remastered from the original master tapes except for track 11 which was mastered from a vinyl source. Tracks 1, 13 originally released on The Return Of Drexciya, Underground Resistance UR-037, 1996. Track 2 originally released on Aquatic Invasion, Underground Resistance UR-030, 1995. Tracks 3, 12, 14 originally released on The Unknown Aquazone, Submerge SVE-3, 1994. Track 4 originally released on Molecular Enhancement, Submerge SVE-6, 1994

Drexciya’s association with the aquatic isn’t restricted to their choice of imagery and titles; Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller reminds us just how aquatic their sonic make-up was too, particularly on the hydraulically pumping ‘Aquarazorda’ and gravely mystical ‘Beyond The Abyss’. The wetness of the synth lines is always contrasted with, and therefore exaggerated by, the driest drum machine hits imaginable. Play this music to a child and I guarantee you that words like underwater or sea will figure in their response.

See All. Neptunes Lair.

Currently, NASA’s budget for one year could fund sixteen hundred years of oceanographic exploration. One of the things I like most about Drexciya’s Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller I is that it draws your attention to this unknown world. The Detroit duo’s engaging mythology combines two of the most ignored subjects in modern history: slavery and deep-sea life forms. They seem to be pointing out the fact that we don’t even know our own planet, but we’re trying to explore the universe

brilliant job, these tracks never sounded better, proper audio adjustments and faultless pressing, finally! :)

This is the better of the two "Journey of the Deep Sea Dweller" compilations out so far, and I'm almost certain it will remain the best regardless of what they put on the rest of the planned releases.

wow! the remasters really make a world of difference with these (already great) tracks! it's like listening to them for the first time! essential!sorry for all the exclamation marks but this really warrants the use of them...

Clone records brings us a fresh compilation of classic tracks by Drexciya. This couldn't come at a better time, as much of the group's early work has been long and undeservedly out of print. Their method here is not to reissue Drexciya's legendary EPs in their original form, but to jumble up the tracklist and cherry pick stuff from different releases. I could quibble with the track selection, never having been a fan of bangers like "Seaquake" and "Beyond the Abyss". But Clone has hinted at more reissues to come, so I'll hold my tongue there.Audio quality is very good: a huge improvement over the ancient vinyl rips that folks like myself have been relying on, but not overly EQed for punch or loudness like so many modern remasters. This compilation also includes a previously unreleased track, "Unknown Journey I".

This stuff is simply wicked ! 2011 was really generous of some reissue gems like this along with Biosphere's Substrata and John Beltran's Ambient Collections... Do yourself a favour - buy a copy, will you ! Happy 2012 !
